Diagnostic Services

This includes diagnostic services utilized to catch signs of oral problems at an early stage.

Oral evaluations (periodic check-ups)

Oral health screening tools are an invaluable resource in dentistry. Used to diagnose and detect common oral diseases, oral health screenings aim to understand the health status of patients’ mouths and provide critical information for early preventive measures. By understanding the importance and benefits of using these tools together with the process and procedure for their utilization, dentists can effectively identify dental conditions before they become more severe or cause permanent damage.

X-rays

  • These are an imperative component of your dental care. Along with an oral examination, they provide your dentist with a more in-depth view of what’s happening in your mouth.
  • X-rays show toothX decay, fillings, gum disease, and types of tumors. Dental radiographs can also alert your dentist to changes in your hard and soft tissues. In children, radiographs allow the dentist to see how their teeth and jawbones are developing. Early detection of an infection or injury also can limit or prevent further damage to other areas of the mouth.
  • Radiographs taken during a screening enables early detection of periodontal disease as well as issues not readily visible at first glance e.g abscesses, infections etc., all greatly improving your chances of proactive treatment options.

Professional Cleanings And Oral Prophylaxis

Professional Cleanings and Oral Prophylaxis

  • Dental prophylaxis involves a dentist cleaning the teeth and inspecting the mouth for signs of any dental issues. Prophylaxis means preventive treatment.
  • According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 80% of people in the United States will have a cavity by the age of 34 years. Oral health has links to many chronic health conditions, such as heart disease and diabetes, so it is important to practice dental hygiene for teeth and overall health. Some dental prophylaxis treatments include cleaning plaque from teeth and checking for signs of oral conditions.

Fluoride Treatments Especially For Children

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend fluoride treatment for all children as soon as their teeth begin to grow to prevent decay, pain, and future dental infections. Dentists or doctors should repeat fluoride treatment every 3–6 months, depending on a child’s risk of cavities.

Fluoride has several benefits for the teeth

  • It helps the body better use minerals, such as calcium and phosphate. The teeth reabsorb these minerals to repair weak tooth enamel.
  • It joins into the tooth structure when teeth are developing to strengthen the enamel of the teeth, making them less vulnerable to bacteria and cavities for life.
  • It slows or even reverses the development of cavities by harming bacteria that cause cavities.

Pit and Fissure Sealants

Pit and Fissure Sealants

They are coverings that are applied to the top surfaces of permanent molars to prevent decay inside the grooves that naturally occur in these teeth.

Clinicians reorient their efforts toward increasing the use of sealants on the occlusal surfaces of primary and permanent molars in children and adolescents. Pit-and-fissure sealants have been used for nearly 5 decades to prevent and control carious lesions on primary and permanent teeth.

Pit and fissure sealants can be utilized as a primary prevention tool when the tooth or the patient is at an increased risk of experiencing caries or as a secondary prevention method interrupting the progression of incipient caries.

Compared to no sealant use, the use of pit and fissure sealants reduced the risk of developing dental caries by 44% after three years in the first permanent molars.

  • Educational instruction provided by your dentist or dental hygienist, including – Techniques for proper brushing, flossing and use of other oral hygiene aids
  • In special circumstances, preventive resin restorations or decay arresting medication applied to teeth, typically given to children at high risk for developing decay

Preventive dentistry services are labeled as such because they allow your dentist to monitor your oral health, promote healthy habits, prevent new disease through a variety of treatment services, and catch signs of oral health problems early.
